Our Mission
Our mission is simply this: to glorify God and make disciples.
What We Believe (“Statement of Faith”)
- This Statement of Faith describes the essential Christian beliefs held by the members of First Baptist Church of Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
- We believe that the entire Bible is inspired by God and is without error in its original writing. It is the complete and final written revelation of God. (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:21)
- We believe that there is only one God who is eternal and unchangeable and who exists beyond our own limitations of space and time. We believe the existence of God is clearly evident throughout the physical world and that His nature can be clearly understood by all so that none of us has an excuse to reject Him. (Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 6:4, Romans 1:18-20)
- We believe God manifests Himself in three distinct Persons—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19, John 1:14, John 10:30)
- We believe that we are all born with a sinful nature which separates us from God and that we can only enter into a relationship with Him through personal faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ— not by our own merit, performance, or good works. (Romans 3:10, Romans 5:12; Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5)
- We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Messiah who was born of a virgin, was totally without sin, is God in human flesh, who died on the cross for our sins, was buried and rose again from the dead on the third day, and who ascended to the right hand of God the Father in heaven where He now intercedes for those who believe in Him. (John 1:36-42, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:34-35, Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 7:26, Colossians 2:9, John 1:1 & 14, John 20:28)
- We believe that Christ’s death on the cross as a sacrifice for our sin makes salvation freely available to all who hear the gospel message and, through faith, repent of sin, believe the gospel message, and commit to live an obedient life in Christ. We believe that at the moment of salvation, we are born again spiritually and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Believers then become members of the body of Christ (the Church). We believe that because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit we can never again become separated from God. (John 3:1-6, John 3:16-19, John 5:24, Romans 8:35-39, Romans 10:9-17, Ephesians 1:13-14)
- We believe that the Holy Spirit not only convicts us of our sin but also empowers us to turn away from sin, to begin a new life in Christ which is evident to those around us, and to witness boldly for our Lord. (John 16:7-11, John 16:13, John 14:26)
- We believe the Church was established by God to spread the Good News of salvation and that the Church is essential to all believers for their spiritual growth. We believe that spiritual gifts are bestowed on all Christians and that these gifts support the healthy functioning of the local church. (Hebrews 10:25, Romans 12:4-8, 1 Corinthians 12:14-26, Matthew 28:19)\
- We believe that Jesus Christ is going to return to the earth for His Church and that He will then set up His kingdom on earth where he will rule and reign forever. (1 Thessalonians 4:16, Matthew 24:30, Revelation 19:13)
- We believe heaven is a real place where the saved will dwell forever, and that hell is a literal place of torment where unbelievers will suffer forever apart from the mercy of God. (John 14:1-3, Revelation 20:11-15, Revelation 21:8, Revelation 22:5)
- We believe that Satan is real and that he seeks to deceive the world, defeat Christian believers, and destroy the work of God, but he can be resisted by believers because we are protected by God, the Holy Spirit, and the intercession of Jesus Christ our Lord. (Genesis 3:1, Job 1:6-12, Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 22:31-32, 1 John 4:4, Revelation 20:10)
- We believe that the human race was created as male and female by a direct act of God to fully reveal His image. We believe marriage is of Biblical origin and that it is a sacred covenantal union between a man and a woman that limits sexual relations to monogamous, heterosexual marriage in compliance with the Word of God. (Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 2:24, Genesis 4:1, Romans 1:21-27)
