Pastor Search Team Prayer Guide

Day 1

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 3:5-6, Jeremiah 29:13, James 4:8

Pray for the church to wholeheartedly trust the Lord while searching for a pastor and that this will be a time the church learns to seek God Himself more than just a new pastor. Lord, teach us to draw closer to Jesus and trust Him as the true head of the Church.

Pray for the search committee to trust the Holy Spirit's leadership. Pray for the pastor God has chosen for us that he will also seek and trust the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Day 2

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:1-6

Pray for unity and peace in the church while searching for a pastor. Pray for a strong sense of unity among the search committee as they review and discuss potential pastoral candidates. Pray for our coming pastor that he and his family will have unity of heart with God's leading.

Day 3

Scripture Reading: John 15:16-17

Pray for a season of fruitful ministry as the church prepares for her next pastor. Pray for the search committee to be blessed with answered prayers. Pray also, that the coming pastor and his family will be blessed as they seek to obey God's calling.

Day 4

Scripture Reading: Psalm 139:23-24

Pray for members of the search committee to have humble hearts before God that are pure and Christlike as they work through the pastor search process. Ask God to reveal your heart to you. Ask Him to show you those areas He wishes to work in your life to make you more like Christ. Pray for your future pastor, that his heart remain humble and pure before God.

Day 5

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:10-11

Pray with the understanding that searching for a pastor is primarily a spiritual process, so spiritual warfare will be present. Pray for a powerful hedge of protection around the committee and their families, our staff and their families, and all of our church families .

Day 6

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:1-2

Pray for your future pastor and his family to be strengthened by the grace of Jesus Christ. Pray that your future pastor will be a faithful disciple-maker.

Day 7

Scripture Reading: Revelation 3:1-6

Pray for the church to be filled with life through the Holy Spirit.

Pray for the church to be strengthened to carry out the vision of the Great Commission. Pray for your church to be a Great Commission church that makes disciples. Pray that your future pastor will be a Great Commission leader.

Prayerfully read this passage and let God speak to your heart: Matthew 28: 16-20

Day 8

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 3:20-21

Pray the power of Christ would be known in and through the church and that all glory would be given

to Him throughout the pastor search process.

Day 9

Scripture Reading: John 13:34-35, John 17:21

Pray for the search committee and the church to be obedient to Christ's command to love one another.

Pray for a miraculous sense of love and unity among all members of the church. Help us surrender all bitterness, division and anger within our church family. Lord, empower us to love one another with a patient, forbearing love.

Pray the church's Christ-like love will be seen in our community and in our nation.

Day 10

Scripture Reading: Psalm 51:10-12

Pray for each member of the search committee and the staff to stay close to the Lord through hearts that are continually cleansed by Him. Pray for your next pastor to keep a cleansed heart before the Lord.

Day 11

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 4:1-5

Pray for your future pastor to faithfully preach the Word of God. Pray the Lord gives the church a hunger of the Word of God and receptivity to the sermons that are preached by the new pastor.

Day 12

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:17

Pray for your future pastor to faithfully shepherd the church and for members of the church to willingly and joyfully place themselves under his servant leadership.

Day 13

Scripture Reading: Joshua 1:9

Pray for each member of the search committee to have an overwhelming sense of God's presence and guidance as they work through the steps of the pastor search process.

Day 14

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 2:2-6

Pray for your future pastor to seek God's wisdom in every area of life and decision making. Pray for the search committee to be attentive to the Lord's wisdom.

Day 15

Scripture Reading: James 4:1-12

Pray for church members to humble themselves before the Lord and seek His cleansing power in order for revival to come. Pray for the search committee to continually submit to God's will.

Day 16

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:15

Pray for a pastor who is able to rightly divide the Word of God. Pray for discernment for the search committee as they listen to sermons of potential pastoral candidates.

Day 17

Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 33:3

Pray that a burden for deep and urgent prayer permeates the church not only as you seek God's will for a pastor, but also as you seek God's direction for the church in every area of ministry.

Day 18

Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 3: 1-7

Pray for your next pastor to be a man who exhibits Christ-like character both publicly and privately.

Pray for your future pastor's family as they transition to a new work.

Day 19

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3: 12-17

Pray for your church to grow in love toward one another. Pray for unresolved conflict to be worked out and for reconciliation among any broken relationships in the church.

Day 20

Scripture Reading: Revelation 3:14-22

Pray for the church to fight against lukewarm spirituality. Pray church members repent of a lukewarm spirituality and become filled with a zeal for Jesus and His Kingdom work.

Day 21

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:19-25

Pray for the church to be committed to biblical worship. Pray for the search committee to be confident that they are following God's will as they make decisions regarding your future pastor.

Day 22

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 5:5-7

Pray for mutual respect and humility between the church and your future pastor. Pray for the church to follow the leadership of your future pastor. Pray that we will patiently await God's timing and settle for nothing less than His perfect will. Ask God for His mercy in giving us a true man of God and a great leader (Hebrews 6: 12)

Day 23

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 5:8-9

Pray for the search committee to remain humble before God and that they will not be anxious, but trust God's leadership. Pray that the church will stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

Day 24

Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:24-29

Pray that when the time comes to extend a call to your next pastor, God will make it unmistakably clear to the future pastor and church. Pray for the Lord to work powerfully in the church to disciple new believers.

Day 25

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:24-26

Pray for the search committee to discern if potential pastoral candidates possess the biblical qualities of a servant of the Lord. Pray for the church to affirm these qualities in their future pastor.

Day 26

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:1-11

Pray that Christ's attitude of humility and servanthood permeates both the search committee and the church during the pastor search process.

Day 27

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 42:9

Some churches struggle with wanting a pastor who is like their previous pastor. Others desire someone who is just the opposite. Pray that all would be receptive to God's doing a new thing in the our church and accept His perfect will above our own desires.

Day 28

Scripture Reading: Revelation 2:1-4; 3:15

Pray for strong consistency and focus in the present ministry of the church. Pray God grant great power to our interim pastor and to our staff Pray for protection from any spirit of lukewarmness or losing our first love.

Day 29

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4: 1-6

Pray that we be prepared to make the necessary changes to embrace a new day of ministry. Lord, we understand that a new pastor always means changes. Help us to be prepared to change and grow with graciousness and unity.

Day 30

Scripture Reading: John 17:21, 1 Corinthians 1:10

Pray for great unity in calling the new pastor. Lord, help us to receive him and his family with deep love and renewed commitment. Grant to us a powerful sense of revival and spiritual awakening as we move into the future. Pray for grace, guidance and strength for the church from which our new pastor came.

Day 31

Scripture Reading: Psalms 66:18; 139:23-24

Pray for a powerful move of congregational cleansing and renewal. Father, please cause this to be a time of deep healing, cleansing and renewal in our church.
