FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH HOPKINSVILLE
OUR HISTORY
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11)
The Christian Faith is based in God’s past actions, but passionately serves Him in the present age, and faithfully focuses on His faithful promises for the future. First Baptist Church was born on June 6, 1818 as a small group of believers led by our Lord gathered to begin a church that would become First Baptist Church Hopkinsville. Today, we survey the two centuries that have passed since that June day and stand in awe of the work God has done. Godly members have followed the leadership of the Lord and the church leaders that He faithfully provided in each generation in order to work toward the fulfillment of the Great Commission. Countless people have placed their faith in Jesus as their Lord and grown in their faith through the ministries of our church. Ministers of the Gospel have been called by the Holy Spirit and sent by this great church to carry out their part in the Great Commission. First Baptist Church has been blessed to start several churches in the surrounding areas as she has been faithful in living the Great Commission in Christian County. We are a church that has been focused on fulfilling the Great Commission and God has placed His hand on us.
First Baptist Church has a storied past and a good future. The same God who has provided for this church for two hundred years stands ready to lead us into our third century of ministry in Hopkinsville. We are encouraged by God’s faithfulness in the past and eagerly covenant together to follow Him as He leads us forward until He returns.
We celebrated our 200th Anniversary on June 6, 2018 and you can read our updated history here!
